The goal of the nine70 community is to be Salt and Light to the world. In Matthew, Jesus says:
“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
Matthew 5:13-16 (NIV)
At nine70, we are intentional about being salt and light to our world through missions trips and service to our community.
Being Salt
Salt makes people thirsty. By being salt to the world, we aim to help people thirst to know more about Jesus Christ.
Light to the World
Light can help provide direction, clarity or vision. We believe Christ is the light to the world, and He can provide the direction, clarity and vision that our world desperately needs. We are intentional about bringing the light of Christ out to the world.
Disciples We’ve Sent
Below are the profiles of disciples who we’ve released into the world to let God’s name be known across all nations. Please note that some disciples are using pseudonyms at this time to protect their safety, as they are in hostile areas.

Where Are You Serving?
Qinhuangdao, China since August 2010.
Why did you go?
Having studied history and education at Colorado State University, teaching has always been my desired profession. As I approached graduation I wanted to teach abroad. Through the friendship of several people in the nine70 community I was introduced to an organization that places North American believers in Asia to be apart of His work. Father and teaching abroad? Yes please. A year later I am in China teaching away, and learning how His Kingdom defies everything I think is.
How has the nine70 community encouraged you?
By seeking to love Him wholeheartedly, without reservation, and despite the world’s mocking. Whatever specific support I receive, it all stems from this.
What would you say to someone considering stepping out in faith to be a missionary?
Go for it – make the offering and wait to see how Father responds. But remember there is no certainty of where you will end up. You are not following Him to a different country, a new culture, or to do something big. You are following Him, to follow Him. The only certainty you have is that wherever He leads it is exactly where He wants you.

Why did you go?
Because there’s nothing more exhilarating than sharing the gospel with people who have never had the opportunity to hear it, or to offer hope and light to people living in darkness. Also, the Lord placed it on my heart! I felt a stirring to seek out how the Lord wanted to use me for his glory during this season of life and this is was the door he opened.
How has the nine70 community encouraged you?
It was in nine70 that my desire to serve the Lord and be sensitive to his leading was cultivated further. Once I made the decision to step out onto the mission field, I was surrounded by so many people who were excited to come along side me! By way of prayers, finances, scripture and encouraging words I’ve been completely lifted up by this community.
What would you say to someone considering stepping out in faith to be a missionary?
Go! Pray a lot about it first, of course=) But if in your prayers you don’t sense any reason you shouldn’t go…step out in faith! And with each step you take, the Lord will either affirm and provide or redirect your steps. God is most glorified when we are most satisfied in him. Missions is a beautiful way to put yourself completely in God’s hands and there’s infinite value in kingdom work!

Why did you go?
I went out into the mission field the first time because I knew God had something greater for me than what I was currently living in, something more than spreadsheets, and financial statements. I believe the Great Commission is not some obscure suggestion or some optimist fantasy – the Gospel can truly reach all ends of this earth, and most importantly that God called each and every one of us to work to fulfill the Great Commission.
How has the nine70 community encouraged you?
I came to Fort Collins right before I started on a year long mission trip. I was excited but nervous. I went to a retreat, met everyone from nine70 and was so encouraged. When I was out in the nations I would get messages from different people from nine70, asking how I was doing and praying for me. Upon returning to Fort Collins, I came back to a solid community that encouraged and supported me. Now that I am back out in the mission field in a new capacity, I have people from nine70 that support me.
What would you say to someone considering stepping out in faith to be a missionary?
Pray about it! Get the confirmation that you need and run full speed towards where God has called you to go or to what God has called you to do. Go will all your heart, serve as if onto the Lord. Journal and always remember the moments that God brought peace, and confirmation on your calling. There will be hard times, but as hard as it is, you won’t always get to see your fruit of your labor but know it is always worth it.
